Early voting started here in Virginia a couple of weeks ago. While standing in line to vote, I was thinking about the David Bowie song “Heroes” and its famous line: “We can be heroes, just for one day.” America needs all of us to be heroes for these midterm elections.
Voting makes you a hero for a day. But why stop there?
We have the chance to push back against Republican overreach and stop Trump’s agenda in its tracks. To send a definitive message, we must do more than just cast a ballot—all of us need to act.
We have one month until Election Day on November 3rd. With all of Trump’s posturing and chaos, showing up right now is an act of courage, and we need courageous people.
Some people aren’t comfortable with canvassing, phonebanking, or texting—and that is OK. We also need people who will encourage their neighbors to vote.
We need heroes who will stand up and bear witness to their friends, neighbors, and people they meet. Heroes who will stand up and say “Enough. Enough of the chaos, enough of the runaway costs, enough of the war, and enough of the unchecked ego. Join us in stopping the continual assault on our democracy and demanding sanity back in Washington.”
No one is asking anyone for a lifetime commitment to the Democratic Party. We just need accountability and sanity brought back to Washington. Vote to stop Trump, so that at some point in the future we can return to sanely discussing policy, rather than distractions like drones and snipers on an arch most of us don’t want.
Don’t listen to the polls. Don’t listen to the prognosticators. Don’t pay attention to a generic race between a Democrat and a Republican. What matters are the real elections happening across the country in each of our home districts and states. We do not know what the results of those elections will be. We must turn out every single voter, especially those who usually sit out elections. Remember, over one third of eligible voters did not vote in 2024.
Voting makes you a hero for a day. Showing up between now and November 3rd for your community is how we rewrite the future. Let’s answer the call.
