My sister, Roberta, created a fun family cookbook of recipes and stories a decade ago. She recently resent her “intro” to me and I love it. She talks of how our five senses link us to those wonderful memories from our past. I urge you to give this a read and I guarantee it will make you smile.

The words are strictly Roberta’s.  I’m just sharing them.

How does one create a cookbook that not only has great tasting family recipes, but also brings forth the memories of days gone by?

Where the sight of that specially seasoned turkey can take a person back to a Thanksgiving morning when the aroma of a roasting turkey filled the house, while the sound of excitement is heard as family members gather.

Where the smooth taste of a fresh cup of morning coffee transports a person back to a special day when you were solving the world’s problems with a friend or family member.

When hearing the sizzling of a steak on a grill filled with charcoal, brings back the memory of outdoor fun on a summer evening.

The answer is easy.  Holidays, birthdays, casual gatherings, and special moments will live forever within us as long as we have our senses. Sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch give us the ability to relive those memories that are dear to us.

The taste of mom’s spaghetti sauce that simmered for half the day – The sight of an oven cooked ham at Easter – The sound of hash brown potatoes sizzling in a hot pan of seasoned oil – The smell of Dad’s vegetable soup carefully being stirred – Or the touch of an oyster as it is added to our special Christmas dish, scalloped oysters. (That may be a bad memory for some of the grand kids ;-)…).

As you read and prepare these delightful family recipes, not only will the memories come back, but newer family members will create their own memorable moments to share with family and friends in the future.

Hmmm, I sense a Volume II Family Cookbook coming!

Aren’t those wonderful words?  As I read them, and then reread them, so many family memories came alive.  Think about your own family recipes, special occasions and get-togethers and bring your senses to bear. We can all use a little happiness in our lives.  Don’t miss this opportunity.

Love you Roberta, and thanks for making my day.
